The most common coaching advice in tennis is: Watch the ball. Players have heard this thousands of times from their coaches but one of the most common causes of unforced errors continues to be the failure to track the ball into the racquet head. Most players do a good job focusing on the ball until the ball bounces. This is where usually things break down. After the bounce it is very easy for players to switch focus and start worrying about where they will hit. This usually causes them to look at the target before they make contact, preventing them from hitting the ball in the middle of the racquet and causing mistakes. Here are two fun drills to help players understand the true meaning of watching the ball.
